Promenade 2005
This is the buttonaire that Steff gave me. I took a picture of it so that I could keep it fresh even if it's only a picture.
I’m still experiencing this major prom hangover. Last night was the most awaited night for the juniors! Yep, it was prom. A day before that I started to get prom jitters. I find it hard to go to sleep because I was really thrilled by the fact that the prom is going to be on the following day. Thoughts as to how the prom would transpire lingered on my head. So I ended up sleeping at 2am. The following morning enthusiasm struck me. I woke up early because of so much excitement. It seems that the time that day was moving really slow. I just don’t know how to kill time. The waiting and anticipation made the time go in a sluggish manner. As the hours tick away, the more my heart started pounding. I left the house around 6:40 to pick up Steff. I texted her first to see if she was already prepared and I got a yes for an answer. On my way to Steff’s place I was stunned because of the heavy traffic in katipunan. Apparently there was a car accident. It made the road so congested. Having seen that my only resort is to pray like hell because we are going to be late! It would take a miracle to get through that traffic. Indeed God answers prayers because when we went pass the vehicular accident the road went completely free. It was like the exodus of the Israelis to the promise land in which God parted the waters. I finally arrived in Steff’s house. I bought a bouquet several hours before that and I give it to Steff. To my surprise, Steff told me that she wished that her prom date would give her flowers. Her first date wasn’t able to do that and that was something really cool. I met her mom and she seems non-chalant and I think she’s really cool. We took some pictures and off we went to the prom. After asking a few directions we ended up at the prom venue, Gazebo Royale. The first thing that came out of Steff’s mouth is that she loves the place. Yes, the place had this romantic ambiance! I’ve realized that we were totally late. That’s ok the important thing is that we’ve been to the promenade. Because of extreme nervousness I became really clumsy. I stepped on Steff’s gown and another girl’s gown. If that wasn’t enough I stepped on Steff’s foot. Eventually, I tried to relax and it paid off! J We had our pictures taken which was hard for me because I was trying not to laugh. Then some group pictures were taken. The night went well. Steff is the greatest prom date because she thought of this night as a commitment to me. She has this batch party which she didn’t attend to just to be in my prom. There is another factor which prohibits her from going to the prom but still she was able to make it. Of course I’m not going to state what it is for the sake of privacy. The fact that she was still able to go is something I’ll never forget. We didn’t dance during the slow dance part. Don’t ask me! It’s a mutual decision. In exchange for it we had some talk. She brought up the question, “When was the last time you were happy?”. It was a tricky one because what she meant here is absolute happiness in which you could say “I’m so happy I think I can die tomorrow”. Anyway, I tried to find an answer to that question. To my surprise the answer was never. She asked the same question to Mark and the reply was similar. Her answer was the same thing as well. In the end we’ve realized how human we are not to experience absolute happiness. To sum it all up the night was unforgettable and it’s hard to put it into words.
